Botulinum Toxin injections Treatment FAQ’s

Botulinum Toxin injections (more commonly referred to as Botox, which is a brand of botulinum toxin) Botulinum toxins is a neurotoxin protein which prevents the release of neurotransmitters acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, which when injected into these muscles blocks messages telling muscles to tighten, therefore softening and removing certain wrinkles/lines and if used before lines and wrinkles appear regularly can stop them ever appearing which is why this has become a popular treatment with a younger generation whilst continuing to help soften lines in the more mature client and works particularly well on upper facial areas and to treat underarm excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) and Teeth Grinding.

Q. How are treatments administered?
A. All treatments are injected and are relatively pain free.

Q. What are the side effects of treatment?
A. Common side effects of treatment is lip swelling and redness and possibly some bruising for a few days after treatment.

Q. How long will my botulinum injections last?
A. Botulinum treatments vary depending on where they are administered and last around 3-4 months in upper face areas, however can last over 6 months in the jaw and underarms.

What is the cost?
B. Botulinum toxin injections start from a price of £150 for one area and there are discounts for multiple areas treated which your practitioner will be more than happy to discuss with you.

Q. How long do treatments take?
A. Treatments can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes upward depending on amount of areas treated and is always after a free full consultation with your nurse practitioner.

Q. What are the side effects of treatment?
A. Common side effects of treatment are localised swelling and small amounts of bleeding at injection site (which will stop very quickly during treatments). There is also a possibly of some temporary muscle weakness in some areas.

Q. Who can have botulinum toxin injections?
A. Botox type treatments are open to the majority of people male or female over the age of 18 years.
